It contains a variety of enzymes, including enteropeptidase, the enzyme that converts trypsinogen to active trypsin, aminopeptidase, nucleases, and nucleotidases. See also gastro‐intestinal tract.

intestinal juice A slightly alkaline liquid containing mucus that is secreted into the lumen of the small intestine from the cells that line the crypts of Lieberkühn. Together with pancreatic juice, the intestinal juice provides an alkaline environment that helps in the absorption of digested food molecules entering the small intestine in chyme from the stomach.
