BAYLESS, Raymond G(ordon) 1920-2004

See index for CA sketch: Born January 30, 1920, Los Angeles, CA; died May 25, 2004, in Los Angeles, CA. Artist and author. Bayless was known for his landscape paintings and contributions to book covers, as well as for his books on parapsychology. A self-taught painter, he learned his craft by going to the Los Angeles County Museum and studying the artworks there. Becoming a professional painter, he often did commission work for the U.S. government and the military and contributed cover art for fantasy and science fiction books. But Bayless also made a living as a professional parapsychologist working in his home city of Los Angeles. He published several books on the subject, including The Enigma of the Poltergeist (1967), The Other Side of Death (1972), and The Case for Life after Death: Parapsychologists Look at the Evidence (1981).
