SIDELIGHTS:

George M. Diggs Jr., is a research associate at the Botanical Research Institute of Texas, where his include the taxonomy and ecology of North Texas flora, the plant genera Comarostaphylis and Arctostaphylos, and the systematics of Tropical Ericaceae (blueberry family). Diggs coauthored Shinners & Mahler's Illustrated Flora of North Central Texas with Barney L. The book describes 2,376 taxa of vascular plants found in North Central Texas. Each plant is depicted as a line drawing, and symbols are given to indicate if the plant is endemic, introduced, poisonous, or endangered. Discussions and maps of the geology, soil, climate, and prairie types of the area are given. Fifteen appendixes and a glossary are found in the back of the book. C.T. Mason Jr., reviewing the work in Choice, remarked that Diggs and his coauthors "have crafted a fantastic compilation of information about the flora of North Central Texas."
