Julien Donkey-boy
Julien Donkey-boy ★½ 1999 (R)
Harmony Korine's story of a schizophrenic young man and his disturbed family is the first American movie to be filmed using the principles of the restrictive Danish film-making method known as Dogma ‘95. Apparently, there must be some kind of restriction on the plot and narrative as well, because the audience is merely shown disturbing images of the mentally ill Julien (Bremner), his pregnant sister Pearl (Sevigny), his jock brother Chris (Neumann) and their abusive father (Herzog). Largely improvised and shot using hand-held digital video cameras, this unsettling project is for the cinematically adventurous only. 101m/C VHS, DVD . Ewen Bremner, Chloe Sevigny, Werner Herzog, Evan Neumann, Joyce Korine, Chrissy Kobylak, Alvin Law; D: Harmony Korine; W: Harmony Korine; C: Anthony Dod Mantle.
