Julius Casserius (Giulio Casserio)

1552-1616

Italian teacher of anatomy, physics, and surgery who studied under Fabrici in Padua. Casserius's engraved anatomical plates were ornate and embellished with detailed landscapes. His first publication, De vocis auditusque organis (1601), about speech and hearing, had 34 plates, some comparing human vocal cords with those of the cat. His Tabulae Anatomicae (1627), an incomplete volume, was finished by others. He was succeeded by Spigelius.
