Napoli, Gennaro

Napoli, Gennaro, Italian composer and teacher, father of Jacopo Napoli; b. Naples, May 19, 1881; d. there, June 28, 1943. He was a student of d’Arienzo and de Nardis at the Royal Cons, in Naples. In 1906 he won the Pensionato Nazionale per la Musica. He taught composition in Naples at the Liceo Musicale (1912–15) and at the Royal Cons, (from 1915), where he served as asst. director (from 1926). He ed. L’Arte Pianistica and publ. Bassi imitati e fugati (1915).

Jacopo Ortis, opera; Armida abbandonata, dramatic scene (1906); Sym.; In montagna, symphonic suite (1906); II sole risorto for Soloists, Chorus, and Orch. (1909); songs; piano pieces.
