South Central Power Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To help high school seniors pursuing their education at a college, vocational or technical school. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduating seniors who have basic credits for entering college or a proper vocational or technical school; have current career GPA of at least 3.6 on a 4.0 scale and a combined ACT score of at least 22; must be accepted or will be accepted at an accredited college or proper vocational or technical school; and must live at the South Central Power account location. Parents/guardians of the students must be members/consumers of South Central Power Company. Applicants who have received a full tuition scholarship to the school of their choice are not qualified. Criteria: Awards are given based on scholastic record; personal achievement, school and community activities; poise, personality and appearance; and knowledge of cooperatives based on an OREC fact book provided by South Central Power Company.
Funds Avail.: $400-$2,500. Number Awarded: 6. To Apply: Each high school in South Central Power Company's service area will nominate one boy and one girl to represent the school in the contest. Nominated students must submit a completed official scholarship application form (must be typed), together with the complete high school grade transcript. Deadline: March 7. Touchstone Special Achievement Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To help high school seniors pursuing their education at a college, vocational or technical school. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduating high school senior students whose parents or guardians are electric members of an Ohio rural electric cooperative. Criteria: Students are judged on how well their activities reflect the Touchstone Energy core values of accountability, integrity, innovation and commitment to community, as well as their drive and dedication to achieving a college education despite personal obstacles or challenges.
Funds Avail.: $750 and $1,500. Number Awarded: 2 first place, and 2 second place. To Apply: Applicants must submit a completed scholarship application to Ohio Rural Electric Cooperative (OREC). Contact: Rita Tate, Office Services Support Specialist, at 740-653-4422 x-6167, or 800-282-5064 x-6167.
