TV adaptation of a part of Faulkner's 1939 novel “The Wild Palms” that is set in the ‘20s. The “Old Man” in question is the mighty Mississippi, which has flooded leaving a pregnant Addie (Tripplehorn), abandoned by her husband, stranded and about to give birth. But prison-farm inmate J.J. Taylor (Howard) is sent by the warden to row to her rescue, becoming a surrogate father when the baby is born, and traveling the river to New Orleans to get mother and child to safety. 98m/C VHS .
