X-Men: The Last Stand
X-Men: The Last Stand ★½ X-Men 3 2006 (PG-13)
Last stand? More like “can't stand.” Hack-a-licious director Brett Ratner tarnishes the legacy of Bryan Singer's above-average superhero series with this lazy, unimaginative bore. Forget all the subtlety and coolness from the first two X-Men movies, because Ratner's replaced them with cheap-looking FX, incoherent storytelling, and barely disguised misogyny. Professor X's merry mutants have to contend with a resurrected Jean Grey (reborn as the all powerful Phoenix) and a new “cure” that threatens to wipe out mutantkind forever. Sounds intriguing, but you won't believe how often your eyes will involuntarily roll as major characters die stupidly, plot holes run rampant, and Wolverine cries like a wuss every ten minutes. 104m/C DVD, Blu-ray Disc .
